The Company

NorthMark Compute & Cloud (NMC²) is backed by dedicated leadership and investment, with a clear mission as it operates at the bleeding edge of technology. Its goal is to scale and enhance the high-performance computing (HPC) and cloud infrastructure that supports its clients' research, production, and delivery, enabling breakthroughs that shape the industries of tomorrow. Its engineers build critical infrastructure to eliminate friction in scientific research, simulations, analysis, and decision-making, accelerating discovery and driving faster innovation.

The Position

We are seeking an exceptional and visionary Chief DC Engineer to lead the design, deployment, operation, and optimization of next-generation High Performance Computing (HPC) Centers — mission-critical facilities engineered for complex AI/ML workloads at hyperscale. This role is central to realizing our vision of a world-class AI/ML infrastructure platform.

You will be responsible for overseeing the end-to-end lifecycle of group HPC Centers, from design, construction, commissioning, operation, through improvement. The ideal candidate will have deep technical expertise in data center development and operation, with a track record of strong leadership in managing interdisciplinary teams and delivering robust, scalable, and efficient facilities tailored to HPC environments.

Because the development of our HPC business is schedule driven, decisiveness, strong instincts, assertive leadership and executive communication skills are all key characteristics.

Responsibilities:

  • Define the development roadmap for our HPC Center business, aligning with long-term HPC and AI/ML platform growth objectives.
  • Deliver on aggressive development timeline as well as ongoing compute performance, operational efficiency, financial, and resiliency outcomes.
  • Ensure HPC Center designs meet end user requirements and keep pace with the evolution of technology.
  • Identify development opportunities to enhance financial outcomes and drive business case development.
  • Play visible, hands-on role as program leader on data center developments. Implement disciplined engineering and design baseline control and change management processes.
  • Develop KPIs to drive high probability outcomes and learning curve improvements on future design build iterations and ongoing operations.
  • Develop and manage a multidisciplinary team of architects, engineers, and operators. Design HPC function operating model.
  • Ensure all systems are optimized for high-density compute, liquid/air cooling technologies, and energy efficiency.
  • Keep a pulse on engineering and technological breakthroughs that can be applied to improve the efficiency, effectiveness, reliability, and/or performance of our HPC infrastructure.
  • Interface with internal stakeholders, including but not limited to compute operators and support functions.
  • Interface with external stakeholders such as EPCM contractors, , OEM vendors, deliver partners, and third-party SMEs.
  • Drive comprehensive policy and procedure documentation and enforce rigorous QA/QC processes.
  • Ensure full compliance with safety, environmental, and industry regulatory requirements.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or similar.
  • 10+ years of experience in mission-critical data center development and/or operations in a senior leadership capacity.
  • Effective leader & communicator who thrives in a collaborative team environment.
  • Bonus: Understanding of AI problem sets and their flow down of requirements to compute and supporting power and cooling.
